We had the privilege of hosting a workshop celebrating language, culture, and joy at two Saraswati Pujo events.
This past month, we had the incredible opportunity to host the “Amar Bhasha, Amar Utshob” workshop at two wonderful Saraswati Pujo celebrations: the Somerset Bengali Association (SBA) and Maitree Association of America. We want to extend our heartfelt thanks to both SBA and Maitree for graciously hosting us and creating an atmosphere where we could celebrate the beauty of the Bengali language and culture.
Our workshop was designed to inspire and educate young minds about the significance of Ekushe February and the rich history of Bangla. The importance of this day, which commemorates the language movement of 1952 in Bangladesh, is a vital part of our cultural heritage, and we were thrilled to introduce this topic to a room full of curious kids.
Throughout the session, the children learned about the impact of Bangla on our arts, culture, and everyday lives. They discovered how the language not only unites us but also gives voice to our stories, our music, and our vibrant traditions. We also had the chance to share some fun and interactive activities, including writing our names and favorite words in Bangla. Watching their faces light up as they saw their names written in this beautiful script was a moment to cherish!
One of the highlights of the workshop was the lively tongue twister contest. The kids jumped at the chance to challenge each other with tricky Bengali phrases, and the room echoed with laughter as everyone tried their best to pronounce them correctly. It was a delightful way to bond over language and to embrace the joy that comes with learning something new.
The workshop was a true celebration of “Amar Bhasha, Amar Utshob”—my language, my festival. We are so grateful to the Somerset Bengali Association and Maitree Association of America for inviting us to be part of these special Saraswati Pujo celebrations. It was a joy to see the next generation taking pride in their roots, learning about their heritage, and sharing in the fun of the day.
As we continue to celebrate our language and culture, we look forward to hosting more workshops that allow us to connect, educate, and spread the beauty of Bengali to future generations.
